I know what you mean about walking along the Kaanapali shore from resort to resort and to the little shopping area. Since you are in PHX, maybe USAir vacations? Once you find something you like, start comparing the same trip on a bunch of sites like funjetvacations, applevacations, expedia, orbitz or booking separately. I agree, search by what you can afford and then start investigating through the trip reports and look at the traveler photos posted. Tulum beaches look even more amazing and pristine but it is still pretty rustic down there (most hotels no AC) and not sure if there are any AI's.someone else know? Never been to Akumal but I've been reading about it on some forums and I must say that the beach looks like one of the most us great snorketing in Akumal Bay and Half Moon Bay. But there are some great resorts there that probably have great prices right now. If you want quiet, not sure PDC is the best choice as it is resort after resort - kinda like Kaanapali. PDC is about an hour/hour fifteen from the airport if I remember correctly Puerto Morelos is about 25 minutes from the airport Here is a link to a map of the Riviera Maya so that you can get a feel for where everything is. Give it a try - we'll be going back again this winter, though flights to Hawaii are shorter and cheaper! :) We just find that friendly atmosphere very inviting and though the flight is quite long for us, we love that we can maximize this area for a very affordable vacation. I also have loved the Mexican culture and food - I have found most Mexicans to be so friendly - we go to Isla Mujeres, and there are people there that remember us from a visit 2 years previous - I have never had that in my travels to Hawaii. Maui is one of the more expensive islands to visit - Kauai and the Big island offer better deals.īut we find ourselves returning more to this side of Mexico - that powder white sand and turquoise water is incredible. You can also do Hawaii fairly cheaply, but you have to shop around. I think you can experience more serenity on the beaches there simply because of the lack of vendors hawking their wares. You also have the ease of travel within the US and no water drinking issues.
I think that Hawaii offers the best of scenery - my favorite island is Kauai and not much compares with that kind of beauty.
Well, I love both Mexico and Hawaii, but for different reasons.
